Policy-Focused Research in Teacher Professional Development: 勛圖厙, in collaboration with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (India) and the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan, launched the Landscape Mapping Study (LMS) Report as part of the International Development Resource Centre (IDRC) funded project A Multi-modal Approach to Teacher Professional Development (MATPD) in Low-resource Settings on March 13, 2023. The study focused on teacher education and professional development policies and practices in Afghanistan, the Maldives, and Nepal, with a special emphasis on action research, ICT integration, and gender inclusion in the education sector. The event, attended by key stakeholders including the Minister of Higher Education and the CEO of the Maldives Qualification Authority, showcased the projects findings and highlighted the Maldives' progress in teacher professional development. The findings provided valuable policy recommendations for improving teacher training and professional development, specifically tailored to the Maldives context. 勛圖厙s involvement in this project aligns with its commitment to contributing to evidence-based policy development, especially in the education sector, in collaboration with national and international partners.
Extension to Baseline Study on Parenting and Childcare Practices in the Maldives: In collaboration with UNICEF, the Institute for Research and Innovation (IRI) undertook an extension to its baseline study on parenting and childcare practices in the Maldives. This research sought to evaluate the current knowledge, attitudes, and practices of parents and caregivers across the nation, aiming to inform the development of a comprehensive national parenting program. Spanning six months, the project was led by the IRI Research Team with Dr. Mamdooha Ismail serving as the Project Manager. The Ministry of Education was closely involved in the initiative, ensuring alignment with national priorities. The findings from this study are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the Joint Positive Parenting Programme (JPPP) 2022-2026. The project was completed with funding from UNICEF, contributing valuable insights for the advancement of childcare and parenting strategies in the Maldives.
In collaboration with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the Institute for Research and Innovation (IRI) conducted a groundbreaking study on public trust in the media in the Maldives. This research aimed to examine public perceptions of media practices, focusing on key factors such as reporting standards, trust, professionalism, media ownership, and the influence of social media. Spanning three months, the study assessed how these elements impact sustainable development and societal outcomes. Led by Dr. Fazeela Ibrahim from the IRI Research Team, the project was supported by the Maldives Journalists Association. The findings from this study are intended to bolster the capacity of media professionals to produce accurate, high-quality reporting, helping to combat disinformation and strengthen public confidence in the media.
Research on Labour Migration in the Maldives: In collaboration with the PILC, the Institute for Research and Innovation (IRI) conducted a research project focused on labour migration in the Maldives, with a particular emphasis on Bangladeshi workers. The research aimed to investigate the challenges faced by migrant workers, including issues related to labour migration, trafficking in persons, and exploitation. Managed by Dr. Amzath Ahmed from the IRI Research Team, the findings from this study are intended to inform policy recommendations and contribute to an action plan that addresses the gaps identified in the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report. The project was successfully completed with funding from PILC, and its results will play a crucial role in developing the policy focusing on migrant workers rights in the country.
The National Perception Survey of Maldives, conducted in collaboration with the International Republican Institute, was a comprehensive study aimed at gauging public opinions on a wide range of topics, including decentralization, political parties, government institutions, and the electoral system. The survey also explored themes of civic engagement, values, ideology, and disinformation. Spanning 30 weeks, the project was managed by Dr. Fazeela Ibrahim from the IRI Research Team. The findings from this survey are expected to inform key policy and governance strategies in the country. Funded by the International Republican Institute (DC, USA), the results have been published and will play a significant role in shaping the future political landscape of the Maldives.
