Center for Postgraduate Studies

Introduction

Welcome to the Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CPS), a dynamic initiative of 勛圖厙 established on August 26, 2019 through directive (REC/2019/03) from the Vice-Rector. The creation of CPS was driven by the desire to streamline the functions of the Institute for Research and Innovation (IRI), with IRI and CPS each responsible for specific roles.

As a key component of 勛圖厙, CPS is charged with fulfilling four important responsibilities: managing and coordinating supervision for postgraduate research, providing research support activities, designing and delivering research-based academic programs, and developing and reviewing research-related policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Under the direction of Dr. Mohamed Adil, the Deputy Vice Rector, CPS is expertly led by Dean, (Adjunct-Assistant Professor of FES & FET), Dr. Ibrahim Latheef, who is committed to ensuring the smooth and effective operation of this vital component of 勛圖厙.

Deans Message

Assalaam Alaikum and welcome to the Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CPS)!

We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to all students at the Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CPS) at 勛圖厙, Maldives. Our center is a dynamic and committed community dedicated to guiding students and providing specialized research support. With our knowledge and experience, we aim to prepare students for diverse career paths and lifelong learning.

CPS offers a range of high-quality research study programs, including the Postgraduate Certificate of Research Studies (PCRS), Postgraduate Diploma of Research Studies (PDRS), and Master of Research Studies (MRS). The certificate and diploma programs introduce students to the world of research and academia, while the master's program (MRS) additionally prepares students for pursuing a Ph.D. with a one-year thesis. Furthermore, CPS oversees all master's dissertations, ensuring students are matched with appropriate supervisors, conducting research support workshops, and assisting with ethics clearance for primary data collection. Our research support staff comprises nationally acclaimed mentors who create an environment for students to excel in their research areas and become leaders in their respective professions.

We eagerly anticipate collaborating with you to make the most of the programs and resources we offer, helping you advance your career and pursue a doctoral degree in your field. Whether you are new to research or returning to postgraduate studies, CPS will guide and mentor you to achieve excellence in your academic pursuits.

With best wishes,
Dr. Ibrahim Latheef
Dean, Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CPS)

Dr. Ibrahim Latheef has more than 25 years of experience in the field of education and specialised in modern education and institutional development. One of the key developmental areas is on digital t...echnology as a tool; in particular, the effective use of internet-enabled digital technologies in teaching and learning with completed projects in both Maldives and Australia. His core interest is in education and research that examines how tools mediate human labour and activities (i.e., teaching and learning), and how they impact human consciousness and develop their thinking. Hence, current research and development areas include educational institution development and transformation, AI in Education, Mind and Interactivity, Cultural Historical impact of technologies on the human mind, Digital games in education, Digital literacy as a way of thinking, extended reality in education, and Implementing Curriculum.
