Programme Details

Introduction

This programme will teach students to use observation and experimental evidence to understand the relationship between sensations and actions, as well as the intervening processes that underlie human behaviour. It will provide theoretical knowledge of different areas in the field of psychology, applicable knowledge for the workplace, and practical competencies required for the field. Graduates of this programme could go on to pursue postgraduate study to specialize in a selected area of interest in psychology, work in social services or human resources, or work as a psychologist assistant under the guidance of a supervisor.

General Entry Criteria

  • 2 passes in A Level/HSC
    (At GCE A/L, a pass is considered E and above. HSC pass is considered C and above) OR

  • Attainment of a Level 4 qualification in a related field OR

  • Attainment of a Level 4 Foundation Study Program approved for the specific Diploma program AND
    O’ level English pass or equivalent

Alternative Entry Criteria

  • 20 years old, completion of a Level 4 qualification (unrelated), and successful completion of an MQA-approved University Preparation Program OR

  • 20 years old, completion of secondary school, 2 years of relevant work experience, and successful completion of an MQA-approved University Preparation Program

Upon successful completion of this programme participants will be able to

  • Understand the core areas in the field of psychology including cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and experimental psychology;

  • Critically analyse the developing field of psychology within the Maldives;

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and an ability to critically analyse existing practices in psychology;

  • Critically analyse a current psychological tool, and administer, interpret, and report the results of the tool; and

  • Develop and execute a small-scale psychological research study, followed by a scientific write-up of the study.
