The Master of Science in Counselling programme is a two-year course that covers the compressive ground in understanding issues related to mental health and wellbeing. The modules are carefully chosen to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of the aetiology and therapy regarding counselling issues. The course will also advance students understanding of counselling assessments and testing, diagnostic and treatment planning, and research, in practical situations. Special areas covered in this course include child and adult psychopathology, group counselling, geriatric counselling and addiction counselling with a focus on Maldivian cultural context. Students will be working alongside counsellors and gain extensive experience in counselling settings during their internships.
General Entry Criteria
A related Bachelors Degree OR
A related Graduate Diploma at level 8
Note; Related implies that the applicant should have a Bachelors Degree in Psychology / Counselling.
All participants would be interviewed by faculty prior to selection

Develop knowledge, understanding and skills in assessment and diagnostic testing in the areas of counselling
Advance understanding of counselling research
Prepare students to apply advance skills and interventions across mental health issues
Prepare individuals who wish to pursue a career in counselling
Upon successful completion of this programme participants will be able to:
provide supportive counselling service to promote psychological wellbeing;
carry out specific diagnostic and treatment planning with clients;
carry out mental health interventions and counselling therapy; and
work in different settings and provide therapy to different groups
